Program

Day 1. Amsterdam – Havana
Late afternoon arrival at Havana International Airport and transfer to the Hotel Santa Isabel in Havana, dinner at hotel.

Day 2. Havana
Walking tour of Habana Vieja, the historic centre where the hotel is located. Visit to the four squares, Ernest Hemingway’s room at Ambos Mundos hotel and museum Capitanes Generales, the former home of the Spanish governor. Hereafter off to the famous Bodeguita del Medio bar for a mojito and lunch at the La Mina Restaurant. After lunch a visit to the Rum museum, the Capitol and Parque Central. In the evening a cigar-and rum tasting diner in Conde de Villanueva.

Day 3. Havana
In a classic oldtimer with driver a visit to the Fort El Moro and then to Christ Statue. Then a drive through the famous Miramar district and lunch at El Aljibe. After lunch a visit to the cemetery of Columbus and Revolution square. The afternoon ends with a visit to the Callejon de Hamel, a fully painted alleyway by an artist, including the apartment buildings! In the evening dinner at Restaurant La Paella.

Day 4. Havana – Vinales
Departure for Vinales, with a visit to Cueva del los Indios on the way (here you will take a boat ride on underground rivers). Next to the Mural de la Prehistoria (a painted mountain) where lunch will be served at local restaurant and a tour of the area. Overnight at La Hermita of Los Jazmines based on bed & breakfast.

Day 5. Vinales
Morning walk with a guide through the tobacco fields. Lunch at restaurant Don Tomas in Vinales and then visit the botanical gardens and the Casa de la Cultura. Overnight at La Hermita of Los Jazmines based on bed & breakfast.

Day 6. Sierra del Rosario
Departure to Las Terrazas, a visit to this beautiful region, which is a reforestation project of UNESCO together with the Cuban government as this region was used for the cultivation of coffee in earlier years. On site visit to the ruins of coffee plantations and the river San Juan. Lunch at Casa del Campesino. Then on to Las Terrazas for dinner. Overnight in La Moka based on bed & breakfast.

Day 7. Sierra del Rosario – Peninsula de Zapata
Visit to the large orchid gardens of Soroa and waterfalls and then departure to the Zapata Peninsula, to the Hatiguanico River and Bohio Don Pedro, for dinner and overnight in nature.

Day 8. Peninsula de Zapata – Cienfuegos
Departure to Cienfuegos via Bay of Pigs and the Cueva de los Pesces. After  a fish lunch you will have the opportunity for a refreshing swim. You will then continue along the southern route to Cienfuegos to visit Tomas Terry Theatre and in the evening, dinner at Palacio del Valle. Overnight at Hotel Jagua based on bed & breakfast.

Day 9. Cienfuegos – Trinidad
Departure to Trinidad via the Topes Collant, passing by villages along this scenic route through the mountains. In Trinidad you will visit the Romantic Museum, Plaza Mayor and the bar Canchanchara a typical drink of honey, rum, lime and sugar cane. Lunch at Santa Anna, the former Spanish prison. Dinner at the Iberostar and in the evening a visit to the Casa de la Musica for live music. Overnight at Hotel Iberostar Trinidad based on bed & breakfast.

Day 10. Trinidad
Day at leisure. Overnight at Hotel Iberostar Trinidad based on bed & breakfast.

Day 11. Trinidad – Camaguey
Departure to Camaguey via the Valle de los Ingenios and Manaca Iznaga tower. Then a visit to the city of Sancti Spiritus, lunch at local restaurant and then a bicycle taxi excursion in Camaguey. Dinner at Hotel La Campana de Toledo. Overnight at Hotel Gran Camaguey based on bed & breakfast.

Day 12. Camaguey – Santiago de Cuba
Departure to Santiago via Bayamo, for a visit to the house of father Manuel Cespedes of Cuba, lunch at a local restaurant and on to Santiago. Dinner at restaurant El Zunzun and overnight at hotel Melia Santiago de Cuba based on bed & breakfast.

Day 13. Santiago de Cuba
Visit to Santiago de Cuba with the Cespedes square, the Museum Ambiente Cubano (formerly the home of Diego Velasquez, 1523). Then a visit to the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square and the Mausoleum of Jose Marti. This will be followed a transfer by boat to Granma island. Lunch in the village and visit to the El Moro fortress and Granjita Siboney, the farm where Fidel Castro’s first attack was devised. Back to the hotel, dinner at local restaurant and visit to the Casa de la Trova. Overnight at Hotel Melia Santiago de Cuba based on bed & breakfast. 

Day 14. Santiago de Cuba – Havana
Return flight to Havana, overnight at Hotel Santa Isabel.

Day 15. Havana
At the end of the day transfer to Havana airport for departure to Amsterdam.

Day 16. Amsterdam
Arrival at Schiphol Airport.
