Turkish delight

The Turkish capital is beautifully located on the Bosporus, which connects the Sea of Marmara with the Black Sea.  It is a city rich in history, due to its unique location, at the border between Asia and Europe, where a strong oriental influence is present. This is clearly visible in the bazaars, with the strong aroma of the local herbs, the Turkish baths, countless minarets  and belly dancers. For more than a thousand years the Aya Sophia was the largest church in the Christian world, and at that time it was regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world.  A visit to the Topkapi Palace gives a good understanding of the very rich life of its leading sultans, with brilliant pavilions, kitchens, baths, harems, gardens and jewellery. One of our favourite hotels in the historic district of Sultanahmet is Ibrahim Pasha, with a wonderful location at walking distance of the main city sights. In this former Ottoman mansion antique furniture and modern design have been tastefully combined. There is a small breakfast room and a lovely terrace and the 12 guestrooms are fully equipped.  For those who prefer a larger hotel with full facilities and a swimming pool, the Ciragan Palace is a very good option.
