City of thousands minarets

For many visitors the Egyptian Museum, with the breathtaking treasure of Tutankhamen, is more than sufficient reason to visit this impressive metropolis Cairo. For others, it is a popular destination because of  the  famous Pyramids of Gizeh, one of the wonders of the world and more than 4000 years old.  But there is much more to see in this amazing capital, such as the historic Coptic district, the Islamic district and the historic Citadel from 1176. The Khan El Khalili bazaar is a fantastic historic shopping mall where you can shop endlessly till late at night. And along the Nile you can take a felukka boat for a relaxing sailing trip. Out of town are the pyramids, Memphis and Sakkara, which you simply have to see. Our favourite hotel is Villa Belle Epoque, a new boutique hotel dating from 1920 and decorated in a lovely mixture of colonial and oriental style. The garden is well protected from the sun and has a  swimming pool (4 x 11 m) with sun beds.  Meals are either served in the garden area or in the restaurant.  There are only 13 guestrooms, all with bathroom en-suite.
