Sweden: Åre

 Åre is the finest and largest ski resort in Scandinavia. Here you will find nature at its best  combined with fantastic ski possibilities, great restaurants and a rich nightlife. Åre is without doubt in Scandinavia the best choice for winter sporters who are looking for a large ski area and good variety in other winter activities, like scooter safaris, dogsleds, ice-caving and Icelandic pony riding. The northern location offers perfect snow from December to May and there are 83 ski lifts, offering access to 98 kilometers of pistes (10 km. Green, 39 km. Blue, 43 km. Red and 6 km. Black). The ski area reaches to 1274 meters altitude and there are good opportunities for winter sports at all levels: skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers (56 km of tracks). Unique is the night skiing, on the quiet and almost deserted pistes that offer the possibility to continue your skiing after sunset.
Also unique is the fact that children under 8 have free use of the ski lifts, provided they wear a helmet. For those who like to lunch on the ski slope, there is a good choice of twenty restaurants. The lively après-ski of Åre is famous. There are about 60 restaurants to be found, as well as bars and night clubs. A number of restaurants is included in the prestigious White Guide, where the best restaurants in Sweden are reviewed.
KLM flies twice a day to Vaernes Airport Trondheim (Norway). Åre is from there easily reachable in about 2 hours by train or car. Alternatively Are-Östersund Airport is an hour's drive from Åre and is accessible by a flight to Stockholm.
