Caribbean: Island hopping

The Caribbean are great for a carefree family vacation. They have a dry sunny climate so sunbathing, snorkeling and diving are the most important day activities. There are beautiful beaches with attractive hotels and holiday homes. You can choose to stay on just one island, but it is also possible to go island hoping and combine two or three islands.

Avila Beach, on Curacao, remains a favorite, located a few minutes’ drive from Willemstad and is in a former governor’s residence. The Scuba Lodge is an attractive boutique hotel on the outskirts of Willemstad and everything here revolves around marine activities. The famous snorkel bus takes you, together with diving instructors, to the most beautiful diving spots on the island or to the small island Curacao.

Blue Bay offers families with children attractively priced Caribbean-style apartments. It is located on the quiet south coast at Blauwbaai, one of the most beautiful beach locations where you can enjoy snorkeling, diving or swimming in the sea. The AzZuro restaurant is located on the beach and the resort has a tennis court, fitness, four swimming pools and a kids club. Extra (not included) activities available catamaran sailing, snorkeling, golf and diving.

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort is a delightful Caribbean resort with its own golf course, quietly located between the Spanish Water and the Caribbean Sea, a 25-minute drive from Willemstad.

When it comes to diving and snorkeling, friendly Bonaire is the place to be. No other place in the Caribbean has such a large diversity of fish and corals. The beautiful Harbor Beach Club is without a doubt the most luxurious accommodation and here you can walk straight from the beach into the sea for a snorkeling adventure in the beautifully landscaped underwater garden. A boat-ride can takes you to Klein Bonaire, an uninhabited island where you can easily spot sea turtles.

The Renaissance Marina Resort & Casino may not be on the beach of Aruba, but it does have a boat that commutes every 15 minutes between the hotel and a private island off the coast. There you will find two fabulous beaches among the mangrove forests, an exclusive spa and a restaurant for lunch.

It is possible to combine a visit to the ABC islands with a journey to Suriname.
