Charming & rugged

Montenegro has become a serious candidate for summer vacations now that there is a direct flight to Dubrovnik. The country is less than half the size of the Netherlands and has a beautiful coastline as well as mountain peaks up to 2500m. With its Mediterranean ambience, luxurious yachts, lovely shops and restaurants, it has the ambience of the Cote D’Azur. The main reasons for visiting Montenegro are its beaches, interesting coastal villages and the rugged hinterland. It’s here that you will find spectacular National Parks with bears and wolves, raging rivers and the hiking-trails which are often the only paths connecting remote mountain villages.

The historic port town of Kotor is 70 km from Dubrovnik and is situated on Kotor Bay which is Europe’s southernmost fjord. Being so idyllically located, UNESCO decided to place Kotor on the World Heritage List because of it’s beauty. The town of Kotor still has all it’s old city walls, charming streets, squares and churches. And in the surrounding area of Kotor there are lovely hotels to be found.

Palazzo Radomiri **** is located in a small 18th century palace, and has been transformed into a charming boutique hotel. It lies just outside Kotor by the ocean, has a swimming pool and a private dock with sun loungers. It offers yoga classes on the beach, bike rentals, boat rides and kayaks. There are only 10 rooms, including two family suites, each individually decorated with antique furniture.

Hotel Forza Mare ***** has a private beach at its doorstep and is known for good service as well as it’s restaurant on the waterfront, overlooking the bay, where you can enjoy your delicious drinks and meals. The ten guest rooms all have a different theme.

The most luxurious hotel in the country is the Aman Resort Sveti Stefan, which is situated on a small island just off the coast. There are 50 rooms located in rustic cottages on the island as well as an elegant villa on the beach. Guests can choose between different beaches and pools.
But Montenegro is also a very adventurous destination and it is possible to have an active holiday in both the hinterland and the coast. Please check out our 8-day family trip to Montenegro.
