Rio de Janeiro, Buzios & Paraty

Rio is proud of her world famous Copacabana, but has so much more to offer. The formation of the city is due to the irregular pattern of the hills, bays and beautiful beaches found here. The foothills of the Serra da Carioca mountains divide Rio into the different city districts. You can see a birds eye view of this from the Corcovado, the 750m high mountain with the statue of Christ at the top. During a your stay in Rio you will be introduced to the Brazilian culture, nature, music and not forgetting the friendly Cariocas, the inhabitants of Rio. There are some churches and colonial houses from the 18th and 19th centuries to be found in the historical centre. Lapa is the oldest, most authentic neighbourhood with narrow streets and stairs. The historic district of Santa Teresa is also recommended and can be reached by the Bondinho, a historic wooden tram. The Ipanema beach is attractive and is also the nicest area in which to stay. Brazil is quickly becoming more a more important destination and in 2014 Brazil will host the World Cup. In 2016, the Olympic Games are to be held in Rio.

Armacao de Buzios, lies just two hours drive north of Rio and is surrounded by 26 beautiful sandy bays. This former fishing village is one of the most popular beach resorts in Brazil, with lovely shops, good restaurants, lively bars and charming pousadas in which to stay. Outside the busy season (Dec t / m in March) there is a peaceful atmosphere and a visit here is highly recommended. For example, Pousada Abracadabra, is situated on a hill and just a few minutes walk from the centre. With beautifully decorated bedrooms, an open air restaurant beside the pool and stunning views over the sea.
