Beautiful beaches, vast marshy plains, cities such as Miami and Orlando and Disney World of course! This is Florida, the Sunshine State of North America. Travel by car in a leisurely pace, with overnights in various beautiful hotels close to the beach allowing you enough time for excursions, golf, shopping or simply enjoying the sun. An ideal destination for a family holiday by rental car, at a leisurely pace, with overnight stays in beautiful seaside villas. The beach is never far away and plenty of time for sightseeing trips and excursions.

The Sunshine State of North America has beautiful beaches, the Florida Keys and exciting cities such as Miami and Naples. Our ideal fly-drive has a leisurely pace with nights in beautiful villas near the beach. There is plenty of time for excursions, shopping or simply enjoy the sun and sea.

Day 1: Miami – Key West (about 1 hour)
Flight from Miami to Key West and by rental car to the Florida Keys, a chain of tropical islands south of Miami, which are all connected to the mainland by 42 bridges. Overnight on Duck Key in a Sunset villa of Hawk’s Cay Resort.

Day 2, 3 and 4: Duck Key
Key West is an experience in itself; it is a cosy town with a distinctly Caribbean atmosphere. You can stroll through Duval Street and admire the brightly painted houses. The most exciting attraction of the Hawk’s Cay Resort is the ‘Dolphin Connection’. Here during a three hour program, children learn everything about dolphins. Hereafter, depending on the program, children can then swim and play with the dolphins. Overnight in a sunset villa at Hawk’s Cay Resort.

Day 5: Duck Key – Marco Island (approximately 3.5 hours)
The journey continues by rental car to Marco Island with a stop on the way at the Everglades National Park. This is the largest subtropical wilderness in North America, a safe breeding ground for many birds species, caimans and turtles. Just outside the National Park it is possible to make a trip by airboat over the swamp plains. Overnight on Marco Island at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort & Spa.

Day 6: Marco Island – Captiva islands (about 2 hours)
The drive continues to Captiva Island, off the coast of Fort Myers. Along the way you will pass by the chic resort of Naples. The Museum of Art has a wonderful collection and the Children Museum has many different activities. Overnight in a beach villa in the South Seas Island Resort near the beach.

Day 7 & 8: Captiva islands
Sanibel and Captiva are connected by a toll bridge to the mainland and the main attractions are the wide white beaches with thousands stranded shells as well as the beautiful natural parks. South Seas Island Resort is located on the tip of Captiva Island, directly on the Gulf of Mexico and is surrounded by a 4 kilometre long sandy beach. The resort has a marina where boats can be hired and where you can also take sailing lessons. Other Activities: dolphin cruise, nature walks biologist or a kayak. Overnight at South Seas Island Resort.

Day 9: Captiva Island – Miami (280 km / approx 3 hrs.)
By rental car you will drive along the coast towards the south to Naples. From here you will cross to the East Coast of Florida. A stop can be made at the visitor centre of the Big Cypress National Preserve. Arrival in Miami where there is so much to experience and that has beautiful, long sandy beach.

Day 10 & 11: Miami Area
Take the time to visit South Beach, the most hip-area of the city, with eye-catching pastel colours painted Art Deco buildings. The Miami area has lots to offer children as well such as a visit to a crocodile farm, Sea aquarium, Jungle Parrot Island or Monkey Jungle.

Day 12: Miami – Atlanta – Amsterdam
In the afternoon departure to the Miami airport, where the rental car is returned and this tour ends. It is of course possible to extend this tour with a visit to Disney World in Orlando with a return flight from Orlando.
