Brazil: beautiful beaches

Parrots in flight, colorful houses, waving palms and an intense blue sea. This largest country in South America is a country of superlatives, immense proportions and contrasts. With an area of 8.5 million km², Brazil is the same size as Europe and domestic flights are needed to visit all that Brazil has to offer such as: huge waterfalls, unique nature reserves and beautiful cities with the most beautiful beaches. KLM flies to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Fortaleza and many combinations are possible.

In the bustling city of Rio de Janeiro, beach life continues at full speed 24 hours a day while the world-famous statue of Christ is watching over the city. Recommended beach hotels are Hotel Fasano and Sofitel Ipanema. South of Rio lies the “Costa Verde” with the colonial town of Paraty, a charming gem with lovely boutique hotels in the old center. From here boats sail to the islands off the coast. To the north of Rio lies Búzios, the St. Tropez of Brazil, with a sophisticated atmosphere and a large selection of small-scale hotels and beaches.

The seaside town of Trancoso is north of Rio near Porto Seguro and the UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa is more than enough reason to undertake the long journey here. Wilbert Das, once creative director at Diesel, created a tropical paradise here. The hotel rooms are stylishly and originally designed and housed in fishermen’s cottages. A very special feeling to sleep among the locals in the center of Trancoso just a few minutes’ walk from the sea.

Fortaleza is the gateway to Jericoacoara, a small fishing village located between the dunes and the beach. This beach has been on the list of 10 most beautiful beaches in Brazil for years! You won’t find luxury hotels here but if you are looking for atmosphere and authenticity, then this is the place to be! Take a look at Chili Beach and Rancho de Peixe. Rainfalls here are mostly during the first half of the year and the dry season starts in July.

Journeys to Brazil combine well with Argentina and Suriname.
The waterfalls of Iguazu are overwhelmingly beautiful, especially if you stay at Hotel das Cataratas, the only hotel in the national park with a full view of the falls and the possibility to visit them outside official visiting hours. Here you can fly across the border to Argentina and further to Buenos Aires or Salta.
